DUTIES
- Check that glass front door is unlocked and open door to Church.
- Check the collection plates and food basket are on the end of the pew in the Baptistry. If not, they will bee in the Vestry. The plates and basket should be replaced in the Baptistry at the end of the service.
- Turn on lights, fans, heaters, etc., are required.
- Assemble sets comprising prayer book, pew sheet and any other notices to be handed out.
Request two parishioners to take up the communion elements and one to take up the food.
- Welcome and monitor flow and seating of parishioners and visitors, and encourage parishioners to wear name tags.
- Count the congregation, choir, clergy, servers and organist, and give the number to the server when presenting the collection.
- If possible sit towards the rear of the congregation so as to monitor any issues requiring attention and offer assistance if appropriate.
- During
communion, if necessary, monitor the flow of people from the pews and offer assistance if necessary.
- During the last hymn, open the door from the Church to the porch adjacent to the vestry, and prepare to collect prayer books, and to hand out any relevant material (e.g. The Melbourne Anglican).
- At the end of the service: a) stack prayer books in cupboard in the entrance porch; b) tidy Church; c) move items from the "Food for All" basket and place in store room in porch adjacent to vestry; d) turn off heaters, fans, lights, etc.; and e) check that the glass doors in the entrance porch are closed, but at least one is unlocked, and that the door from the entrance porch to the Church is open. Prayer candles can be left to burn out.
Note: There is a traymobile located in the exit porch (or in the adjacent toilet), which can be used to stack prayer books in the entrance porch. This means you can face arrivals, which makes it easier to greet and help them
